Over the weekend, I went to Fargo, ND just for the heck of it. I was driving down 13th Ave and found a Barnes and Noble (my favorite place to be). I was looking through Teen Fantasy and Adventure, my favorite genres, and I found a book by one of my favorite authors, Harlan Coben. The book was also the next book in one of his series, so I was very excited to be able to continue an amazing story. The series is called "The Mickey Bolitar Series," and I found the third book in the series. The series starts with "Shelter," then "Seconds Away," and finally the one that I found, "Found." To anyone who loves action and adventure novels and are looking for books that keeps you reading until the very end, I would definitely recommend Harlan Coben's books! They are amazing!

The Daily Prophet
For my Harry Potter class, we had to do a creative project and submit it yesterday. For my project, I pretended that I was the new Editor-in-Chief for the Daily Prophet after Rita Skeeter disappeared and dedicated the newspaper articles to what happened exactly a year after the Battle of Hogwarts. I talked about the rebuilding of the school, new classes, ads, a memorial of the ones who died from the Battle etc. Below is link to my newspaper that I made. I hope you enjoy!

Laura's Blog Stats
Below is a picture of my blog stats. The numbers are obviously not very high. A way that could make my blog get higher numbers and views is by adding more tags, sharing it on a number of social media sites like facebook, twitter, tumblr etc., and make the posts be done daily and having posts that are relatable to the general public.

The Medium is the Message
According to McLuhan, the meaning of "the medium is the message" is that the medium influences how the message is perceived. The medium's goal is to create and control our association with the message. McLuhan said, "content of any medium is always another medium – thus, the content of writing is speech, print is that of writing and print itself is the content of the telegraph." McLuhan also says, "A medium itself, not the content it carries, should be the focus of study. He said that a medium affects the society in which it plays a role not only by the content delivered over the medium, but also by the characteristics of the medium itself."
With Youtube as the medium, we as viewers have a lot of control over what we want to watch when we want to watch it. We are able to search, comment, like, share, etc.

English For New Media Text Project
For my Text project, I decided to take some of my old books that I don't read anymore and I tore our the pages and tore them up into small pieces. I then spelt English For New Media with the torn up pages. I thought that this would represent old media (books) and new media (video and music). Hope you like it!

LifeScape
Today, I will be presenting about a company in Sioux Falls called LifeScape and their use of media tools. I chose to present about LifeScape because I work at ECCO Inc. in Madison and they are similar companies with their goal to support adults and children with disabilities. There media tools include their website, facebook, twitter, linkin, and their newsletter.

Les Miserables
Here is a trailer for Cameron Mackintosh's Les Miserables on Broadway in New York City. I was lucky enough to see this musical while studying in New York last spring semester. When I went to the musical, I wasn't sure what to expect because I've never read the novel or seen a version of the musical or film. By the end of it, I decided that it was one of my favorite musicals and I was happy I decided to go. I was also lucky enough to sit in the center of the first row in the theater on Broadway.
The Lord of the Rings
The Lord of the Rings trilogy are fantasy novels written by English author J.R.R Tolkien. The Fellowship of the Ring was published on 7/29/54, The Two Towers was published on 11/11/54, and The Return of the King was published on 10/20/55. These novels are one of the best selling novels written with over 150 million copies sold.
Among many of the novels that I own, The Lord of the Rings trilogy is probably one of my favorite novels to read and to watch. The novels are filled with fantasy, action, and adventure, which are my favorite types of books to read. In my opinion, the films portray these characteristics perfectly, thanks to one of the best directors, Peter Jackson.
